Student Field Experiences

The first $50000 of gift revenue from this endowment will enable naming of the “Eugene R. ‘Kip’ Hering III petroleum systems teaching laboratory”, GMCS 244B, in the Department of Geological Sciences. A $10000 donation from Kip (a Department alumnus) and his wife Suellen will kick off the fundraising effort for this endowment. The Department has placed dozens of students into high paying energy industry jobs in recent years, primarily under Kip’s tutelage over the past 7 years as the instructor of our Geol 521 Petroleum Geology course and as the leader of the Department’s successful Imperial barrel Award Team that competes each year through the American Association of Petroleum Geology. Our former Geol 521 and IBA students comprise a nucleus of donors for this new fund – and together with matching funds from their companies will allow the fund to grow strongly right from the start. Additionally, The Department has many older alumni and friends in the energy industry and other careers who will be called upon to contribute.

A. McLeod Mathematics & Statistics

The estate of Alfred McLeod wishes this gift to support the Chemistry Department of the Mathematics and Statistics Department in the College of Sciences at SDSU, under the following criteria: The Mathematics and Statistics department shall receive 20% of the balance of the trust estate, or the sum of $200,000, whichever is less, to offer a class or classes in statistical design and analysis of experiments. If these courses cannot be offered, funds can be used at the discretion of the Department Chair in such a manner deemed appropriate, keeping in mind the Trustor’s original objectives and intended purposes of this gift. LONGSCAN Continuation

Fund purpose is to support the project LONGSCAN Continuation. Fund will be managed by Dr. May Yeh with the objective of facilitating the continued conduct of the LONGitudinal Studies on Child Abuse and Neglect (LONGSCAN) project. This will likely include the utilization of the data that have been collected during the previous 25 years of LONGSCAN to disseminate findings (e.g., data analyses, presentations, and publications). This will requires that the data collected (e.g., hard copy) be maintained until it is determined that they are no longer needed, or are converted to digital. It is expected that student researchers will be involved in these activities (data maintenance, analyses, and dissemination), and that opportunities for further funded follow up studies will be considered.
