Eric Thompson joins us from Tufts Universities Civil and Environmental Engineering Department where he received his P.h.D and served as a Research Assistant Professor. He has studied methods for estimating the likelihood of extreme earthquakes, methods for mapping site response, and the effects of soil heterogeneity on site response, developed a multiscale method for mapping site response, and more recently has focused on methods for modeling nonlinear soil behavior, stochastic ground motion simulations, and ground motion equations for Central and Eastern North America. Many of his research projects have benefited greatly from close collaboration with the U. S. Geological Survey and the Research Center for Urban Safety & Security (RCUSS) at Kobe University, where he has spent time as a visiting researcher.
Eric’s office is in GMCS 235, stop in and visit.
