The BS in Environmental Science is designed to provide students with the foundational training and background to enter a wide spectrum of careers related to the Environment. It is a broad, interdisciplinary program that relies on expertise and coursework from the College of Science, College of Arts and Letters and the College of Engineering. Currently the degree emphasizes aspects of watershed science, hydrology, GIS, surface processes, ecology and environmental geochemistry.
The Program was previously hosted by the College of Sciences and was moved in to the Department of Geological Sciences in Fall 2018. The curriculum for the degree is undergoing revision and a modified program of study will be submitted to the University in September 2020. The newly redesigned curriculum will focus the program of study using a track-based format that presents Environmental Science using a system and systems interaction approach.
As the curriculum is under revision and the program of study relies heavily on courses taught in other programs, the Degree Learning Outcomes (DLO) and Curricular Maps are under development. Proposed DLO’s and CM’s will be updated as the process moves toward submission and throughout the approval process, which is expected to be complete in Fall 2025.
Degree Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the Environment at the Systems Level
2. Use Quantitative Data to Address Environmental Problems
3. Use Spatial Data to Address Environmental Problems
4. Apply Science to Address Environmental Policy Issues
